Testicular tumors are among the most common urological cancers, particularly in young men. With early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, the recovery rate is very high. The first and most important step in the treatment of testicular tumors is radical orchiectomy surgery.

Testicular Tumour Surgery

What is a Testicular Tumor?

A testicular tumor is a firm, usually painless mass that arises from abnormal cell growth within the testis. It is often detected incidentally by men themselves. Early diagnosis increases the success of treatment.

Symptoms of a Testicular Tumor

  • Painless swelling or firm lump in the testis
  • Increase in testicular size

How is a Testicular Tumor Diagnosed?

  • During physical examination, the testis usually feels firm.
  • Scrotal color Doppler ultrasonography performed by a radiologist can confirm suspicion of a testicular tumor.
  • If ultrasonography is inconclusive, scrotal MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) may be used to assist in diagnosis.

How is Radical Orchiectomy Performed?

  • The procedure is done under general or spinal anesthesia.
  • A small incision is made in the groin to access the testis.
  • The entire testis and surrounding spermatic cord (including blood vessels and duct structures) are completely removed.
  • The operation typically lasts 30–60 minutes.

Purpose of Testicular Tumor Surgery

  • Complete removal of the tumor tissue
  • Early detection to prevent disease spread
  • Definitive diagnosis through pathological examination

Postoperative Process

  • Mild pain and swelling may occur during the first few days.
  • Patients usually return to normal daily activities within 1–2 days.
  • Depending on pathology results, additional treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or close monitoring) may be planned.

Final Notes

Testicular tumor surgery (radical orchiectomy) is a critical procedure for both diagnosis and treatment. Early detection and prompt removal of the tumor are vital for the patient’s health.
