The "Unaskable" Questions
20 February 2020I have prepared many articles on male reproductive health and male reproductive organs to date. I have often been here to discuss many topics that are generally not asked or spoken about. This time, I have answered the questions that men are most curious about but cannot ask or prefer not to ask.
1. How Does the Penis Get Erect?
Having a healthy body is an indispensable prerequisite for a sustainable erection, but a healthy body alone is not enough to extend the duration of penile rigidity. Mental arousal is also necessary for the penis to become erect before sexual intercourse.
Mental stimulation ensures the transmission of signals to the brain and the filling of the tubes (corpora cavernosa) inside the penis, which provide erection, with more blood.
For an erection to be achieved:
-
The arteries must work efficiently,
-
Signals transmitted from the nervous system must not encounter obstacles,
-
And complete synchronization must occur between the mind and the brain.
2. How to Prevent Premature Ejaculation?
The condition of involuntary ejaculation before sexual intercourse begins or within one minute after it starts, before the partner reaches sexual satisfaction, is defined as "premature ejaculation" (PE).
Men who constantly experience premature ejaculation problems may feel sexually inadequate and may avoid sexual intercourse over time. Since premature ejaculation is a sexual dysfunction that can occur due to both physiological and psychological reasons, it is recommended that men experiencing this problem consult andrology specialists and start treatment processes specific to them.
However, it should not be forgotten that premature ejaculation does not always need to be treated. Sometimes men may encounter premature ejaculation problems due to the infrequency of sexual intercourse. For a diagnosis of premature ejaculation to be made and treatment to be initiated, this problem must be seen chronically.
3. Does Testosterone Increase Sexual Drive?
The "male hormone" is Testosterone, and it has many important functions in the male body. When testosterone, which has various mechanisms of action ranging from sperm production to increasing sexual drive (libido), and from muscle development to bone density, decreases, both the sexual and daily lives of men are negatively affected.
Testosterone levels can be increased with lifestyle changes and medical treatments. To increase testosterone levels:
-
One should sleep enough,
-
Smoking should be reduced,
-
Weight control should be ensured,
-
Supplements that have a testosterone-reducing effect, such as anabolic steroids, should be avoided.
Experts may also recommend Hormone Replacement Therapy (TRT) for testosterone deficiency in men over the age of 40.
4. When Does Erection Occur After the First Ejaculation?
Re-erection (the refractory period) after the first ejaculation happens much faster in young men compared to middle-aged and older men.
-
It may take minutes for re-erection to occur in young men,
-
Hours in middle-aged men,
-
And days in older men.
Therefore, a clear answer cannot be given to the question "When does erection occur after the first ejaculation?". The re-erection process may vary from person to person.
5. Is It Possible to Lengthen or Thicken the Penis?
Surgical treatment options can be evaluated in cases where deformities in the penis affect sexual penetration and the pleasure received during sexual penetration.
It is known that the sexual lives of both men and women improve thanks to penile lengthening surgery and penile thickening (girth enhancement) operations. Nevertheless, before making a decision for the operation, detailed interviews with andrology specialists should be held, and necessary tests should not be neglected. You can read our article "Treatment of Deformities" for more detailed information about penile lengthening and thickening.
