The "Happiness Rod": This Method Truly Delivers HAPPINESS!

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is one of the most common sexual dysfunctions we encounter as urology and andrology doctors.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is one of the most common sexual dysfunctions we encounter as urology and andrology doctors. There are many different treatment methods for erectile dysfunction, which negatively affects men's quality of life, can end relationships and marriages if left untreated, causes loss of self-confidence, and disrupts the psychology of our patients.

One of the alternatives used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction is "penile prosthesis surgery." Thanks to this method, also known among the public as the "happiness rod," patients can:

  • Leave behind the fear of inability to get an erection (performance anxiety) and engage in sexual intercourse freely,

  • Re-experience the sexual performance of their youth,

  • Regain self-confidence,

  • Eliminate problems caused by sexual issues, getting marriages and relationships back on track.

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF PROSTHESES

There are two types of prostheses: malleable (bendable) and inflatable.

  1. Malleable Prostheses: These are prostheses made of silicone that remain permanently rigid and have the ability to be bent. They are placed into the tubes (corpora cavernosa) inside the penis and are a type of prosthesis that provides ease of use.

  2. Inflatable Prostheses: These are two- or three-piece pump devices that have the ability to be inflated and deflated. The inflatable penile prosthesis is among the models frequently preferred today because it increases patient comfort and provides a more natural appearance/feeling.

The placement of these prostheses, also referred to as happiness rods, takes between 60-90 minutes. After these operations, which can be performed with general or spinal anesthesia, we require our patient to stay in the hospital for 1 night.

It is of great importance that the area does not come into contact with water for 1 week after the operation and that the incision site is kept clean. We also request that no sexual intercourse be engaged in for an average of 8 weeks after the surgery. We check our patients at regular intervals during this period. If our recommendations are taken into account, our patients can engage in intercourse again after the final checks.

IT IS NEVER AN OBSTACLE TO HAVING CHILDREN!

This treatment method, which completely eliminates the erection problem, contributes significantly to the continuation of a healthy sexual life. If orgasm and ejaculation functions were normal before the surgery, they continue healthily after the prosthesis as well. Our aim with the prosthesis application is to ensure that the penis becomes rigid and angled upwards mechanically, not by sexual stimuli alone.

Finally, I would like to address a few of the most curious points in items:

  • The penile prosthesis is not noticeable when viewed from the outside.

  • Unless you tell your partner, it is not noticed that you have a prosthesis.

  • The penile prosthesis does not cause difficulty during sexual intercourse.

  • If an organic problem is present, penile prosthesis surgery can also be applied to young patients.

  • Since the penile prosthesis does not prevent the ejaculation of sperm, it is not an obstacle to having children.
